Technical Information

Office machines and toner cartridges work in unison to produce the hard copy you desire. Whenever either the machine or cartridge is not doing its job properly, the hard copy will reveal there is a problem by displaying marks or poor print quality. The operator knows there is a problem but usually not whether it is the machine or cartridge. The simplest test to determine the cause is to swap in a cartridge known to be working properly, even if it was removed due to being low on toner. If the problem no longer is apparent, then the cartridge is the cause. If the problem remains, then the machine is the culprit. If you do not have another cartridge, contact us and we can more than likely determine the cause.

Many companies try to list a multitude of problems that can be seen on the hard copy and then expect you to figure out what is causing yours and maybe you can take care of it yourself. Two things are wrong with this method. First of all, there are numerous problems that can arise and listing them all can be very confusing. Second, many of the problems have similar symptoms and it takes years of experience to come up with the right answer. We feel the simplest solution is to determine whether the machine or cartridge has failed.

The SX toner cartridge is the only one that has a particular problem that you can take care of yourself. In fact, the manufacturers of the printers have provided a tool inside the machine that can be used to take care of the problem. It is green plastic and is located on the left bottom of the printer toward the back. To identify this problem, there will be black uneven lines that occur randomly on the page. To correct this problem, use the green tool or a q-tip and run it along the slit on top of the cartridge. The slit is covered by a black piece of plastic. There are two slits but a drawing of the green tool next to the slit can identify the correct one. What you are doing is cleaning a part called the primary corona wire. While running the tool or a q-tip along the wire, you will know you are hitting the wire by hearing a squeaky sound.

For that instance where the machine is the problem, we do repair and maintenance on most office machines.
